Thanks to Burrow & Rutter-Armstrong Engineering Ltd for the demo bike, the Polaris Sportsman 570 EFI. For anything to survive in the harsh hills under the shadows of Helvellyn and St Sundays it has to be hardy, versatile, capable and safe. It ticks all of those boxes.

Responsive under the thumb, agile over unstable terrain and capable of the job, at heights and on steep banks along with decent ground clearance for this hilly terrain. Over big rocks the bike remains relatively level with the A-Arm articulation, adding to the safety features needed in the tough Lakeland Hills.

You can easily change from 2WD to 4 WD and the tyres are grippy in all terrain. It is very powerful and can easily pull a fully loaded trailer loaded with ewes and lambs up a hill. An added bonus is the trailer plug. Heated handlebars helps in this weather. Negative point that by no means outweigh the positives. The wind shield is at a height that is doesn’t provide protection to the face, questioning the point of it, but easily mended.

We already have the Polaris Ranger (Diesel) that is equally as capable, versatile, hardy and we cannot live without.
