Last weekend saw the welcomed return of the Polaris British SXS Championship for 2022, with the opening round being held at Neuadd Farm, Wales. 

Welcoming both new and returning faces, the start of the Polaris British SXS Championship was a great success. Open to all brands of side-by-side machines, it was the Polaris RZR claiming the top podium positions across the weekend of action-packed racing at Neuadd Farm. 

“Although we were a tad concerned with the snow and frost on the Friday, it soon cleared up and we had a great start to round one of the SXS Racing Championship,” said Colin Martin, Race Director of SXS Racing. “The racing this year could be quite interesting as we have some new Youth graduates in the senior classes, many of whom could shake things up a bit”. 

After an intense few days of qualifying and racing, it was three Polaris RZR Pro XPs that were battling over the top podium places:After taking the Joker lap at the perfect time, Paul Severn took first place, followed by Sean Harran in second and Mark McCann in third. In the Open Rookies Class, Martin Hales won overall, with Louis McGuffog taking second and the team of David Watson and Graham Knight finishing third. 

What a tremendous start to the racing season for the Open Class, with battles and rivalries being born up and down the field.

The 1000 Expert Class has always been fiercely competitive, and this year is no different with some of Europe’s fastest riders returning to the class, as well as new faces: It will definitely be a class to follow. Tom Fletcher took the top spot after winning all three races, followed by Mack Preistwood in second and Kevin Haran in third, all with the Polaris RS1 1000. In the 1000cc Rookies race, Jacob Wilson took the winning spot, Charlie Snooks claimed second and George Hales, stepping up from the youth championship for the first time, finished third overall, all putting their RS1s to the test. 

This was also the first round for the youth championship – specifically aimed at young riders as an introduction into competitive motorsport. Always full of excitement and with lots of moving around this year, no one could be sure who would come out on top. Jack Barker took a huge achievement in the Youth Class by winning all three races in his Polaris Ace 570, he bolted off the line and never looked back. Jude Scotney took second after using Fred Tarrant’s mechanical failure to his advantage and Lenny McGuffog closed off the top three.

The opening round at Neuadd Farm has been a great start to the 2022 racing season and a special thank you to the organisers and all the teams that took part. 

The next round of the series is set to take place on 30th April – 1st May at Cusses Gorse MX Park in Salisbury.
