After an incredible start to the season, round two had a lot to live up to. Fortunately, it didn’t disappoint: A world-level venue paired with a strong attendance worked perfectly to create a great weekend of racing. 

Open Class

Qualifying

The qualifying session began exactly where Round 1 left off; it was extremely tight at the top. Mark McCann took pole with Paul Severn just five tenths of a second behind. Shaun Haran secured the third spot followed by the experts Adrian and Callum Loveridge in fourth. Fifth place was taken by the first of the rookies, Jess Barker – beating her godfather Louis McGuffog for the rookie top spot. It was very competitive all over the field, making it very exciting for everyone involved. 

Race 1

The first race saw a bit of a switch up in the standings. Mark McCann broke clean off the line and continued to lead right up until the finish. Paul Severn secured second place, followed by Sean Haran. The top three positions were split by the smallest of margins across their best three laps. Just like qualifying Jess Barker took fourth, being the first of the rookies home and Tom Welbourne made great progress up through the pack to fifth.

Race 2

Race 2 could have been the definition of racing as it had a little bit of everything. Mark McCann once again broke clean off the grid but a mechanical problem saw him fall down the field to twelfth. Taking the advantage of McCann’s problem, Paul Severn took the race win ahead of rival Sean Haran finishing second. Jess Barker took third, followed by David Watson. Adrian and Callum Loveridge finished race 2 in fifth and Richard Burke moved up the field finding form with every lap but sixth was all he could manage in the time available.

Race 3 

Race 3 was another great session to watch. Paul Severn started first on the grid but was beaten to the line by Sean Haran who took the race win. Paul Severn secured the overall top spot for the day with a second place finish. Jess Barker had a fantastic day winning all three of the rookie races, she was chased home by Godfather, Louis McGuffog, in fourth. David Watson had a solid finish in fifth.

1000 Rookie Class

Qualifying 

The 1000 Rookie Class is always one of the hardest to call and last weekend was no different. George Hales took the pole position by proving that precise cornering beats big air every time. Second place went to Jacob Wilson, who was only three tenths off the top spot; followed by Charlie Snooks and Simon Medleycott in third and fourth place. Henry Proctor finished fifth meaning he had some work to do in race one. 

Race 1 

The first race proved just how hard this class is to call. Henry Proctor ploughed through the field taking the top spot for a great display of driving. Jacob Wilson had to settle for second even after setting the fastest lap for the session. Simon Medleycott progressed up to third and pole sitter George Hales fell to fourth. Anthony Green progressed up to fifth place, holding off Rio Longdon in sixth.

Race 2 

Race two saw a bit of a switch up, Henry Proctor led from the start. A well timed joker lane saw George Hales take second, ahead of Jacob Wilson in third. Rio Longdon progressed into fourth. Corban Ross again progressed into fifth followed by fellow newcomer Tom Butterfield in a great session for both riders. 

Race 3 

Race three was by far one of the best races of the day. Henry Proctor led from the first bend and looked as though he would take it all the way home, however a well timed joker lane from George Hales saw him take the lead on the last lap, but Henry wasn’t finished. Battling it around every corner all the way to the line, crossing side by side split by hundredths of a second. Henry Proctor took the third and final win of the weekend and George Hales crossed the line in another strong second. Jacob Wilson closed off the top podium places in third, holding off Rio Longdon in fourth. 

A great day for the 1000 Rookie Class with the championship wide open at the top. Onward to round three.

1000 Experts

Qualifying 

The 1000 Experts class is always a crowd favourite. Kevin Haran set the pole lap and then dived into the pits to see if it could be matched; it wasn’t. William Buller took second spot beating Mark McCann in third. Tom Fletcher, who is not typically known for his qualifying, crossed the line in fourth ahead of returning Shaun Jenkinson in fifth. 

Race 1 

Race 1 in the 1000 Expert Class is often fierce, fair and guarantees smiles. Tom Fletcher went from fourth place to first in the first half and never looked back. Mark McCAnn had to work for every inch he gained but managed to take second place in a hugely competitive session. Mack Priestwood progressed through to third ahead of Robert Lloyd who finished fourth. 

Race 2 

Race 2 saw Tom Fletcher pick up exactly where he had left off; nobody could match his lap-on-lap consistency. William Buller continued to grow into his new car and secured second spot. Mark McCann secured third spot ahead of Robery LLoyd in fourth. Shaun Jenkinson managed fifth and Kevin Haran took sixth. 

Race 3   

Tom Fletcher looked to have it in the bag at the start of race three but Wiliam Buller was determined not to let Tom win. Waiting for his prime opportunity William took his chance on the last lap by diving up the inside to take the race win. Tom Fletcher took second place and secured the overall win for Round 2. Mark McCann took third and Mack Priestwood pushed hard from the back to take fourth place. Kevin Haran crossed the line in fifth, followed by Shaun Jenkinson in sixth. 

Another great display of racing from everyone’s favourite class; well done all!
