ASK THE EXPERT: What are the different drive modes?
Polaris Off Road’ vehicles have many different functionalities to help your day run a little smoother. Our experts have put a handy guide together on the different driveline modes that you can find at the flick of a switch.
What is Polaris’ True On-Demand AWD System?
Polaris’ True On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is an all-wheel drive system that is controlled by the operator via an in-cab switch. When selected, the vehicle remains in two-wheel drive until a loss of traction is detected, this activates components within the front gearcase and when required, drive is sent to all four wheels. Once the traction at the rear wheels is regained, it reverts back to two-wheel drive giving true on-demand all-wheel drive.
What is the difference between Polaris’ On-Demand All-Wheel Drive and four-wheel drive?
Although it may seem as though all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are the same thing, there is one key difference between the operations. Four-wheel drive provides the same amount of power to all four wheels whereas all-wheel drive can alter the amount of power sent to the wheels enabling you to have more on-demand traction when it is needed.
What is Versatrac Turf mode?
Polaris’ VersaTrac Turf Mode – available on all RANGER models – is the clever functionality that allows you to drive over turf without tearing up what’s underneath.
By entering one-wheel drive / Versatrac Turf Mode by flicking the driveline switch, the rear differential is unlocked. This means when navigating a corner, in Turf Mode, the right rear wheel drives while the other spins freely, giving you the frame of mind that you are not leaving a new track behind you.
